The GD GD, Plus a Side of Stess and Sadness

How's your weather. Here, it's raining shit.

My three big bullet points
  • Gestational Diabetes, not under control, just started Gl*yburide
  • I have the flu
  • My dad had an accident and broke his pelvis in 6 places
See? Raining shit.

My dad's accident really trumps all. He is in the hospital. He is 79. It happened the day before my parents 50th wedding anniversary. The stress and the sadness are huge. I can't even describe what we are going through, what my mother is going through. His recovery, if there are no complications will be at least 3 months.

My GD is complicated by the flu and the stress, but even before that my blood work numbers pretty much sucked. Fasting always over 100. Breakfast always over 150. Dinner always over 160...unless I eat nearly zero carbs, which is not good for Mr. Baby.

Mr. Baby seems okay and strong. He kicks me regularly, which I love. I always say thank you, sometimes out loud. I have not been able to get a hand on my belly during a kick, so I am the only one who has felt him. Sometimes his kicks are just above my belly button but often he is breech and is using my bladder as a trampoline.

More as I know more.

I am so sorry to hear that things aren't going well. The flu will pass, the GD can be managed, and my prayers to your dad in his recovery. FWIW, My grandmother had painful breaks as well (her spine in three places and pelvis in one place, and her hip, at separate times) while she was in her 80's - she lived to be 93 in spite of it all.

Enjoy those kicks.

I am so, so sorry about your dad. How absolutely horrible, and I really hope that his recovery is the best it could possibly be.

The flu is insult to injury - I hope it passes soon, and I'm sending you all the good vibes I can.

GD sucks, no question, but is totally managable. I was also on the glyb. It takes a while for the GD nurses to regulate you but the baby will be fine. You'll get to the right dose and the right diet, and while it is a pain in the butt you will do ok with it. The finger sticks 4-6 times a day are an even bigger pain in the butt but believe it or not it gets routine. Due to my GD diet I came out of my pg 12 lbs lighter than when I went in - which was fantastic until I packed it on with another 30 later :(

Let me know if you need any coaching. At first it is very stressful and confusing, but once you get into a pattern and understand what you can and can't eat you'll be ok. The glyb dose regulation helps too!

Wow - I am so very sorry to hear about this. Holy cow is there anything we can do for you? I am recovering from the flue, but I am not pregnant, don't have GD. Bless your heart. I am thinking nothing but great thoughts for your dad. Hugs from Oregon - Marna
