Revisiting the past.
As a matter of course for fertility treatment, there must be many tests. Many bloodlettings and ultrasounds. And of course, a hemorrhage of money. Everything looked good initially. We even did one round of IUI with an HCG trigger. Great! Then I had the HSG (that histerosalpingorgram, for those of you with a double tongue). No dye, no matter how aggressively forced into my uterus would "flow" into my Fallopian tube. I was cramping, squirming, and finally fully nauseated before we stopped. I really wanted that dye in those tubes. My RE Dr. Mellow, said that it was likely due to cramping. So he recommended surgery, the exploratory kind to see if everything was alright. Every recommendation of course comes with a huge price tag...for those of us without insurance for fertility treatments. That suggestion had a $10,000 price tag with it.
We decided to try the HSG again. This time with some medication that would help relax the uterus and with a slower more gentle approach. I knew that my second time around I could do it right, right? But again, even without the cramping, the tubes were closed off. Next Dr. Mellow suggests another surgery, this time more in the $15,000 ballpark. After that, he says we will be able to resume regular insemination once we know the tubes are repaired ? This puts Wonderwoman and I in a horrible cycle of stress and for the first time we find ourselves in opposing camps.
